These positions are located across five (5) of the DEA laboratories in the following locations:
Mid-Atlantic Laboratory, Largo, MD South Central Laboratory, Dallas, TX Southeast Laboratory, Miami, FL Southwest Laboratory, Vista, CA Forensic Chemist Training Unit, Quantico, VA The incumbent (s) will be exposed to lab hazards and will be required to wear protective equipment. The incumbent (s) will perform duties such as:
Applies the principles, procedures, requirements and work techniques of the full range of advanced testing methods, operations, instrumentation, and practices. Interprets a variety of computer or instrument generated data. Selects appropriate instrumentation to obtain valid results based on field conditions and instrument responses. Performs chemical separations using conventional techniques. Uses computer programs to analyze experimental data and prepare analytical. Basic Requirements:
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work in the fields of astronomy, physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, health physics, engineering, electronics, geology, oceanography, and metallurgy. Experience as a laboratory mechanic or in a trade or craft may be credited as general or specialized experience when the work was performed in close association with physical scientists or other technical personnel and provided intensive knowledge of appropriate scientific principles, methods, techniques, and precedents. GS-08:
Must have at least one year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 Federal grade level performing the following duties collecting and maintaining chemical data; conducting, monitoring, coordinating and controlling testing or analysis operations; identifying and resolving program operational issues; and applying chemistry principles, procedures, and requirements in order to resolve complicated techniques. GS-09:
Must have at least one year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 Federal grade level performing the following duties conducting chemical analysis and testing, data validation and reduction, and reporting; developing and modifying conventional techniques and methods to identify and evaluate compounds; and using computer programs to generate and report data. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
